Teacher Cadet II Instructions, requirements, and portfolio requirements
Welcome to TC2! I hope you enjoy this semester with your class and cooperating teacher. If you have any concerns or questions, text or email me.
Reminders:
- You are not an actual student teacher. The teacher should not leave you alone for extended periods with the students, nor expect you to teach everyday.
- Keep an attendance log. Make extra copies as necessary. Text me if you are absent so I can record it in NCwise. Contact your cooperating teacher if you will be absent, especially if he/she is relying on you for a lesson. If you exceed 3 absences per 9 weeks, see me about how to document “Make-up” time.
- Keep up with weekly journals.
- Collect student samples and document with pictures.
- Re-sign and have parents re-sign the driving permission and confidentiality agreement (in this packet).
- Write out lesson/ min-lesson plans and reflection for each one you do. Make copies of the sheet provided. You need to complete at least 10 mini-lessons or full lessons for the entire semester. Include any worksheets, models, or student samples that go with each lesson.
- If you are with a new cooperating teacher, send a new letter to parents introducing yourself and getting permission to take the students’ pictures. This letter and the parent responses must be included in the portfolio. If you are with the same cooperating teacher, include last semester’s letter and parent responses.
- You will need to conference with me once every four weeks, preferably during 4th block or after school. Bring your cooperating teacher’s quarterly evaluation with you to the conference. I will text you to make arrangements.
- As mentioned above, be sure your cooperating teacher fills out the evaluation every four weeks.
- I will make arrangements to observe you in your classroom. I will attempt to observe you 4 times. If I cannot attend, an administrator will observe you. I will give you advanced notice of the day and time. You need to be teaching a lesson when we come to see you.

Cooperating Teacher for Teacher Cadet II
Thank you for opening up your class and heart to a Teacher Cadet.
Please look through the papers in this packet. If your Cadet is new to your class- try to follow the pacing of easing her into the classroom- as described on the following page.
A few reminders for this semester:
- A Cadet is not an actual student teacher. Please don’t leave her alone with the students for extended periods.
- A Cadet will not be expected to teach every day. She needs to complete 10 mini-lessons or full length lessons over the course of the semester.
- Please sign the attendance log verifying the Cadet’s presence.
- I will attempt to observe 4 times throughout the semester. Prior notice will be given so I can observe her teaching a lesson that day.
- The Cadet needs to contact you if she will be absent. Please provide her with contact information. There is a template enclosed.
- Please fill out the evaluation sheet quarterly, so I may use it for progress reports and report card grades.
- Please contact me at kshoffner@iss.k12.nc.usif you have any questions or concerns.
