District Announces Teacher of the Year

Claude Byron Jones, art teacher at Statesville Middle School was recently named 2012-2013 Iredell-Statesville Schools Teacher of the Year. Jones, and all other schools' teachers of the year, were honored at a recent celebration, where the announcement of the district's teacher of the year was made.

Jones has taught for a total of 24 years and describes his career as satisfied and fulfilled.

"Just take a pebble and cast it to the sea. You will be amazed as I have been at the multitude of blessings that return to you," Jones stated.

Toni Ingram, instructional facilitator at Statesville Middle School believes that Mr. Jones' leadership is at Statesville High School is obvious.

"Since Mr. Jones' arrival at Statesville Middle School, he has collaborated with the staff to support other disciplines and to support district initiatives," explained Ingram. "His role as a leader in our building is hard to miss."

Jones will go on to compete for regional teacher of the year.

Two Wells Fargo Outstanding Teacher Awards (formerly Ben Craig Awards) were also presented at the recognition and celebration. The awards were given to the runners-up to the teacher of the year. This year, Andrew Harrison, language arts teacher at Lakeshore Middle School, and Debra Lester, science teacher at Troutman Elementary School were honored.
