In an email sent out by Superintendent Brady Johnson, he explained the reasoning behind this decision.
"By using the two snow make-up days in our calendar, we are hopeful that any additional days that we may miss, will be covered with our time we have banked this year by extending the school day 10 minutes," Johnson explained. "I hope that I am wrong, but I bet before the winter is over, we will be thankful that we have banked time to protect spring break and avoid Saturday schools."
This is the earliest that Iredell-Statesville Schools has had to close school due to inclement weather in over six years. The district hopes that by using the upcoming days, they will have more flexibility to tackle additional weather conditions as they arise.
