Ann Whelan - Art Teacher
Hello WHE families. I'm Ann Whelan and excited to be teaching art at WHE. I grew up in Cary, NC and graduated from East Carolina University. I have been teaching art for 17 years in several different places: Virginia Beach, Wake County, Mecklenburg County and the past eight years in Catawba County. I live in The Farms with my husband Tim and our son Jake who is a Sophomore at LNHS. We have two great dogs Biscuit and Maggie. Our favorite thing to do together is go to the Panthers games. We never miss one! I am probably the largest Panther fan around. Tim actually works at all home games as a section attendant.
There are many aspects of art that I love. One, spending the day teaching children. Two, teaching Art History including geography and artist's styles. Three, making 3-D art such as soft sculpture, weaving and clay. I enjoy baking, word puzzles, going to the mountains, Autumn and "Pop's Porch" our booth at Main Street Antiques in Mooresville. I'm really looking forward to becoming part of the family here at WHE.
Holly Keller - K/1 Multi-aged classroom
Hello! I would like to take this opportunity and introduce myself. My name is Holly Keller and I am excited to join the learning community at Woodland Heights! This year will be my tenth year of teaching! I'm coming from JV Washam, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg School, where I served the community for nine years. I am beyond thrilled to become a member of the school community that I live in and learn and grow beside our scholars.
I am a native of Southwestern Pennsylvania, from a small town near Pittsburgh. I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and graduated with an Elementary Degree in Spring of 2007. I earned my National Board Certification in the Fall of 2010. My husband, daughter and I live in Mooresville. Throughout the school year, I will work diligently to learn more about you and meet the needs of our learners at Woodland Heights!
Jennifer Pletcher - 3rd Grade
Growing up in sunny St. Petersburg, FL, I attended college at the University of South Florida where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2001. Upon graduating, I moved to Huntersville, NC where I began my teaching career at Blythe Elementary School. While working at Blythe, I continued my education, and in 2006, I graduated from Walden University with my Master’s Degree in Elementary Mathematics. I consider myself a life-long learner, so I pursued and received National Board Certification in 2008. I was in my 8th year of teaching 5th grade when my husband and I welcomed our first son into the world. After much consideration, we decided it was best for me to be a stay-at-home mom and raise our family.
My husband Dave and I recently celebrated our anniversary of 17 years together (married for 9)! We have 2 awesome little boys, David (7) and Zach (5) that keep us very busy. David will be in second grade and Zach will be entering kindergarten, so I decided it was time for me to go back to doing what I love…teaching!
I am so excited to be joining the 3rd grade team and working with my students and parents, and look forward to a wonderful, successful year at Woodland Heights Elementary!
Allison Ouellette - 4th Grade
My name is Allison Ouellette, and I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade at Woodland Heights Elementary this year! My husband and I live in Mooresville with our three children, ages 5, 2, and 1. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Elon University and then went on to earn my Masters Degree from Cambridge College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. For the past two years, I taught at 4th grade at Lake Norman Elementary School. Before LNE, I taught 3rd grade in Cornelius at J.V. Washam Elementary for 8 years. While at Washam, I earned Teacher of the Year (2012-2013) and became a Nationally Board Certified Teacher. Before Washam, I taught 6th grade math and science in Milton, Massachusetts. I am looking forward to a great year full of fun, learning and growing together!
Amy Cooke - 5th Grade
Hi! My name name is Amy Cooke and I am very excited to be here at Woodland Heights Elementary. I graduated from Western Carolina University with a BSBA in Marketing. I worked for a major sock manufacturer for a few years, until I realized my heart yearned for something with a more meaningful impact. In 2008, I began my journey to become a Teacher. I worked as a Teacher Assistant and Tutor until 2012 when I was offered my first classroom with Iredell-Statesville Schools. In May of 2013, I graduated with Masters of Art in Teaching with an elementary specialty. This year, I choose to come to Woodland Heights because I want to spread my wings and add to my teaching experience. What a better place to be than here where we all are “Soaring to New Heights!” I also heard about all the great community involvement.
I have been married to my best friend for six years. Fun fact: We met in a mutual friend’s wedding where he was a groomsman and I was a bridesmaid! We have two dogs that we love very much. Molly is a beagle/hound mix and Vivace is a Maltese. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, cooking, exercising, sewing, and doing anything crafty.
