On December 20, 2011, every student travelled to different "countries" and learned about that country's holiday that was similar to America's Christmas. Each grade level taught about one country:
Kindergarten was India. India's holiday was Diwali, Festival of Lights.
First grade was China. Students learned about Chinese New Year.
Second grade was Mexico. Students learned about Christmas and the legend of the Poinsettia.
Third grade was Kenya. Students learned about Kwanzaa. We even learned from students who celebrate Kwanzaa, how they celebrate in their home.
Fourth grade was Germany. Students learned about The Nutcracker Ballet.
Fifth grade was Israel, and students learned about Hanukkah. They even learned how to play Dreidel.
