My Classroom Mission
To encourage learning that will help students continue on to higher learning both in school and in life. I want to help students to become more well-rounded individuals and to help create a community of people that know how to relate to one another despite their differences. I want my students to walk out of my room with a greater knowledge of both language and literature, as well as the social impact of journalism on the world.
About Me
I’m originally from New York but have lived in the Lake Norman Area since 1999. I read voraciously and I hope to instill the same love of reading in my students. It is all about finding those books and words that speak to your soul. I love what I do and I look forward to seeing my students every day (well...most days anyways). I attended Appalachian State University for four years and graduated with a Bachelor's in English with a concentration in Secondary Education. Any other questions please feel free to contact me at gkeys@iss.k12.nc.us
Contact Information
Parents and students can contact me in a variety of ways. Email is probably the best route to take. My work email is gkeys@iss.k12.nc.us I check this email throughout the day at school, although I check it much less frequently when I am home. If you have a question that needs to be addressed that evening, please email me at my personal email at greghalfaprayer@gmail.com I check this much more regularly while I am at home. I ask that you only use this email if it is an absolute emergency.
You can also call my room at school, although I find that this is the most undependable way to reach me. If you wish a phone conversation, emailing me with your phone number is the easiest way to do so. I tend to completely forget that I even have a phone in my room, and I often overlook it.
Lastly, I use the website edmodo.com as a resource for my classroom. I post assignments, notes, and other things on there for students to access. If you wish, as a parent, to have access to this information as well, please email me with the request and I will send you the parent code necessary to access the site.
