Our children, (young and older) are the seeds of our future
Class Mission
Our mission is to:
Achieve the best we can, aiming to complete the year successfully;
Try to understand the people of our classes, the adults and the students;
Celebrate their successes and help them overcome their challenges;
Understand that taking risks and making errors are part of the learning process;
Help each other understand that it is OK to enjoy learning;
Share what we have with others who are less fortunate.
We do this for ourselves, our parents. our community.
Who is Mr O'Reilly?
This is my twelfth year teaching in the United States, my tenth here in Mooresville, six of which were in Mount Mourne Elementary school. For those of you who do not know much about me, I am British with an American wife, previously art teach at this school. I spent 20 years working in property valuation in the United Kingdom after which I turned to teaching. I taught for 4 years in the south west of England before traveling to the United States in 2001 to broaden my horizons.
I have three grown children, (Clare, Tom and Annie), living in Great Britain, all of whom are achieving great personal and employment goals. Each has visited North Carolina several times. My interests include: good sport (world's greatest armchair fan), good food, good people, good places, photography, - computers,
traveling. (I have set foot on 5 of the world's 7 continents), - cycling ( I have discovered the joys of the bicycle as a form of exercise).
My traveling has convinced me that a lack of knowledge and understanding of different societies around the world causes disinterest, mistrust and fear. If you know and understand that people the world over bleed in the same way as you do, that the origins of grief are the same around the world, that everyone is able to laugh and love in the same way as you do, then you can begin to work away at those international barriers that find their foundations in misunderstanding and ignorance. Our IB School can encourage a better understanding of the world, its population, and its problems. That is why I am so happy to be part of the Mount Mourne faculty.
