My Mission for Brawley Middle School 8th grade Language Arts Students will grow as learners and as responsible contributors to our global society.
About Me "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." --William Butler Yeats Educational Background B.S. Chemical Engineering, Purdue University Academically Gifted Certification National Board Certification-Language Arts I left the field of Chemical Engineering in 1999 and taught Advanced Language Arts at Brawley Middle School until 2009. From 2009-2012, I taught Science, Communication in Context, Humanities and Language Arts at Mount Mourne IB School. I am returning to teach 8th grade Advanced Language Arts at Brawley once more. I am also the director for the Odyssey of the Mind program, serving on the Northern Region Board for OM as well. My youngest child, my son Graham, recently graduated with a degree in Film Production from UNC Wilmington. My daughter Samantha graduated last year with a degree in Sociology from UNC Chapel Hill, and she will begin her Masters Program at UNC Chapel Hill this fall--she plans to be an Occupational Therapist. My daughter Natalie graduated from NC State in 2010 with a degree in Chemical Engineering with an emphasis on Bio-Molecular/ Bio-Technology. She is employed by R.E Mason in Raleigh as a control systems engineer. My oldest child, Risa, is a graduate of Appalachian State. Risa recently gave up her career as a rock star...she was the keyboardist/vocalist for the rock band The Design in Raleigh for the past four years. She has relocated to San Francisco and is working for Shawk Graphics as a graphic arts designer. Risa is also preparing to launch her first novel! I enjoy cooking, gardening, running and reading while at home. Snow skiing and scuba diving are my favorite activities when I get the chance to travel.
