•  Your safety is a primary concern.  Please use your best judgment in applying the following procedures.  Always err on the side of safety.  Remember, you must notify your supervisor if you cannot come to work.

----------------------------

 •  IF SCHOOL IS CLOSED, it is closed to students and all 10- or 11-month staff and an annual leave day will be charged. Central Office and 12-month employees are expected to report to work as usual if they feel it is safe to do so. Those who do not report to work will be charged with a vacation day.

----------------------------

 •  IF SCHOOL IS CLOSED WITH AN OPTIONAL TEACHER WORKDAY, 10- and 11-month staff have the choice of coming to school or staying home. If you feel it is unsafe to come to school, you will be charged with taking a vacation day.  Central Office and 12-month employees are expected to report to work as usual if they feel it is safe to do so. Those who do not report to work will be charged with a vacation day.

 •  ALL EMPLOYEES who feel it is not safe to report to work have the option to make up the absence at a mutually agreed upon time with their principal or supervisor. This time cannot be made up during the professional school or work day.

 •  TEACHERS may make up time on Saturdays, holidays or built-in annual leave days.

 •  TEACHING ASSISTANTS AND ALL OTHER EMPLOYEES EXCEPT TEACHERS may use Saturdays, holidays or extended time at least two hours after school or regular work hours to make up the absence. Remember, classified staff cannot work over 40 hours in any week.

----------------------------

 •  IF SCHOOL OPENING IS DELAYED by 1, 2 or 3 hours, unless specifically stated as a delay for students and staff, the delay is for STUDENTS ONLY.  All staff are expected to report to work at the regular time or as close to it as possible as the employee feels safe to do so.  The time missed can be made up with the supervisor or leave may be taken.  Missed time on student delay days is not forgiven.  If the delay is specifically mentioned as pertaining to staff, only then will the time be "forgiven."

 •  Employees who do report to work do not have permission to leave early. They are expected to work the regular shift.

 •  If a part-time employee's shift begins after the 2-hour delay, that employee is expected to work his/her regular shift.

 •  Time sheets are to reflect the exact hours worked. If the delay is for staff and time is to be forgiven, indicate 2 hour delay for staff in the comment section and employees will be paid for their regular hours.

----------------------------

 • IF SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED DURING THE DAY, the first duty of all staff is to ensure the safety of all students.

 •  The Deputy Superintendent determines when staff can leave for inclement weather.  Once that determination is made, it is in effect for all buildings and locations.

 •  After School Day Care will not be open if school closes early.  School staff may not leave any students unattended.

 •  If schools/offices are closed and first shift employees are allowed to go home early, that time is “forgiven.”

•  Second shift employees should not report to work if schools and offices are closed by noon.  Second shift employees will be "forgiven" the same number of hours as their first shift colleagues.  Any time missed over that amount must be made up or leave used.
