Mrs. Webb's Class
Mission Statement
2012-2013
Mrs. Webb's Language A Level 2 students will collaborate, work well independently, and participate in whole group discussions to become life long learners who "live" the IB learner traits. They will do this by asking themselves if their actions and words are kind, true and necessary.
About Me
After teaching fifth grade for many years at Lake Norman Elementary, I am excited to return the middle school classroom to teach 7th grade language arts at Mount Mourne School!
I was born in Florida and lived in Orlando before I moved to the United Arab Emirates for middle and high school. I attended The American School of Abu Dhabi and I went to Dubai College, a British high school. I have a degree in English from the University of Central Florida. I also have a master's degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. More often than not, I contemplate working towards a doctorate degree. I believe that you are never to old to learn new ideas about life and the world we live in! Maybe this will be the year that I take the first step in the direction of this dream.
I have been married for 25 years to Mr. Webb who is from Liverpool, England. We have three children. My oldest daughter, Emily, will be a senior at Clemson University. Go Tigers. My son, Nick, will start his freshman year at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY! Go Big Red! My youngest daughter, Maddie, will be a junior at Lake Norman High School. Go Wildcats.
Our family has two dogs, two cats, and a bunny! One of our cats is just three years old, and I am learning that she is very sassy. She is named Rigby after a famous Beetles song, but I call her Sassy-Frass! As I am sure you can guess, we love animals. I also love to travel, read, and garden. Last year we were very lucky and were able to vist England and Spain. In England we spent time with Mr. Webb's mom. In Spain we stayed with some friends that I have known since I was in middle school. This year we were supposed to travel to Costa Rica, but had to reschedule that trip. When I meet you this year, I am sure I will tell you the story that led to our decision to reschedule that trip. I hope to make that trip during our winter break time. I can't wait to hear about the places you have visited and the places that you dream to see. I have learned that sometimes when we can't actually visit the place of our dreams, we can read stories that take us there until the time is right for us to actually travel there. :) I know we will talk more about this in our class discussions.
I am very excited that you will be in my class this year. I can't wait to share my love of reading and writing with each of you. We will have lots of fun, and we will work hard together. As we travel through this year together, remember what Henry David Thoreau said, "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined."
