Demographics-East Iredell Elementary is a kindergarten through fifth grade Title I public school located in a residential area of Statesville, NC. There is considerable diversity, regarding both socio-economic and ethnic groups. Our 667 students consist of 26% Caucasian, 42% African-American, 26% Hispanic, 3% Asian and 3% Multi. We have 81.7% of students receiving free and reduced lunch. Program Offerings-Our school offers a variety of learning-centered instructional opportunities following the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. We are the district magnet school for Spanish Dual Immersion in grades K-2 with plans to add another grade level each year. We utilize Envision Math, Guided Reading, Scott Foresman Reading series, TASC science kits, and Jr. Great Books as resources as we differentiate instruction in every classroom. Classrooms use leveled books, novels, Daily Five Teaching practices, Battle of the Books, and other classroom projects to enhance the joy and love of reading. We are a Leader in Me school that teaches and practices Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Results-East Elementary was recognized by NC as a School of Distinction in 2003-04 and 2004- 2005.
In 2007-2008, East Elementary made high growth on the ABC's of Public Education Report.
