Brawley Middle's vision is to be a top five Middle School in NC.
 
Our mission is: Brawley Middle School will work with our community to ignite a passion for life long learning. 
 
Our key core values are reflected in our motto "Flexibility is our Strength" by focusing on student-centered learning and responsibility, high quality staff development, and continuous improvement.

Demographics

There are currently 727 sixth, seventh, & eighth grade students enrolled at Brawley Middle. As a bedroom community of Charlotte, we are located between I-77 and Lake Norman. Our students attend one of three elementary feeder schools: Coddle Creek, Lake Norman, or Woodland Heights. Our student population consists of 95% Caucasian, 3.5% African American, less than 1% Multi-Racial, less than .5% Hispanic, less than .5% Asian, and less than  .5% Native American. We have .5% Limited English Proficient and 11% free/reduced lunch.  In addition, 8% of our students receive special education services and 20% are identified as academically gifted in Reading and/or Math. 

Program Offerings

At Brawley Middle teachers design student-centered lessons that are aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study http://www.ncpublicschools.org/curriculum/.  In addition, we offer remediation in reading, writing, and math through our WIN classes as well as Corrective Reading and Read 180 during the regular school day. Discovery electives provide the opportunity for students to participate in various enrichment programs including: Yearbook, Odyssey of the Mind, Battle of the Books, Science Olympiad, Math Counts, NC Quiz Bowl, Jr. Beta Club Service, Jazz Band, Spanish I, Chorus and more. We provide exceptional children classes in resource, inclusion and regular settings.  We also provide advanced classes in Language Arts and subject advancement in math.

Results

Brawley Middle earned the rating of North Carolina Honor School of Excellence. Brawley's overall percentage of students scoring Level III or IV on Reading, Mathematics, and 8th grade Science was 93.66% in 2009-2010. All 17 subgroups made Adequate Yearly Progress and showed high growth.  We received the No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Award in 2006.  More information can be found on the Governor's Report Card at http://www.ncreportcards.org/src/
 

Key Focuses 2010 - 2011:

  • To remain an Honor School of Excellence by meeting Adequate Yearly Progress Goals and having all students scoring proficient or above grade level on the End of Grade Tests by providing on-going remediation
  • To improve writing scores on the 7th grade writing test
  •  To improve communication with all stakeholders
  •    To provide high quality staff development and implement best practices to improve instruction
