On why he chose to run for the board of education: I am very proud of the education I received here in Iredell County. I’m also very proud to live in such a great community. Being a member of the board of education is my opportunity to give something back to the community that has been so good to me.
What he believes is the biggest challenge facing the school district: The biggest challenge facing the school district is the budget. The lack of tax revenues due to the economic downturn has affected all areas of government. I will always keep in mind that school funding comes from the taxpayer.
What he has learned about the school district since becoming a board of education member: In my short time as a member of the board of education, I have learned that local school systems must adhere to a tremendous amount of state and federal mandates.

Mr. Shoemaker's family: I have been married to Kimberly Robertson Shoemaker since 2006. We have a son, Grayson, who was born in 2009.
