Demographics

Union Grove Elementary is located in a rural community about 14 miles north of Statesville, North Carolina off I-77.  Our current enrollment is 274 students.  Our ethnicity is as follows:  83.4% White, 16.4% Hispanic, .2% Multi-racial and .5% Black.  About 51% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

 

Program Offerings

Our curriculum follows the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  It is enhanced by music, art, physical education, computer literacy and media literacy.   Additional programs offered at Union Grove Elementary are Accelerated Math, Accelerated Reading, Robotics, and Battle of the Books.
 

Results

Union Grove Elementary School has achieved the status of North Carolina School of Progress for the 2009-2010 school year.  This means that 60-80% of students are at grade level.  See Education First NC School Report Card for more information.

Key Focus for 2010-2011
 
                     High-Student Performance:
Students will increase math proficiency in Grades 3-5 by 2.6% from 83.4% to 86% on the NC EOG by May 2011. K-2 students will increase percent correct by 1% from 86.9% to 87.9% on their 3rd cycle PA by May 2011.
Students will increase reading proficiency in Grades 3-5 by 2.5% from 64.3% to 66.8% on the NC EOG by May 2011. K-2 students on grade level for DRAs will increase by 2% from 85% to 87% by May 2011. 
 
UGE will restructure EC delivery to include more inclusive practices to improve EC student proficiency on the Reading EOG by 2.5% from 24.2% to 26.7% and on the Math EOG by 2.5% from 41.7% to 44.2%.
