The field of study in fifth grade is more in depth than fourth grade. We build on the skills mastered in the lower grades. Fifth grade involves a larger work load, increased student responsibility, student accountability, and daily study at home.

Our goals are to meet the objectives outlined in the Curriculum Alignment Guide. Active learning techniques and critical thinking are planned to help students reach these goals.

In an effort to reach these goals, we want to clarify our class policy concerning school work.
Students are responsible for writing down assignments in his/her planner.
All assignments should be completed and turned in on time.
Students have two days for every excused absence to hand in work.
Long term projects will not be accepted late. Projects will be assigned throughout the year. The due dates will be given in advance and there will be some class time for working or planning.

Weekly progress reports are sent home on Tuesdays. These need to be signed an returned on Wednesdays. A mid-nine week progress report will be sent home. Please check the school calendar for the dates.

School conferences will be scheduled throughout the year. If you have concerns about your child at other times, please send a note with your child so that we can arrange a suitable time.

We are looking forward to working with you and your child.
