If you would like to practice some common core math, reading and science examples with your student to help them prepare for the end of grade tests this year, please visit the following website!
Please use the calendar link to view upcoming events for the school and/or our class. Vocabulary lists can be found under the homework link. Thanks!
All checks must contain a current phone number. If your phone number is not printed on your check, please write it on there yourself. Phone numbers should be at the top of your check. If your phone number is not on the check we cannot accept it. The check will be sent back home for your to correct.
Planners (student agendas) may be purchased the first week of school. To my knowledge they are $5.00 again this year. Cash or checks are accepted. Checks should be made to Cool Spring School. Please denote "for planner" on your check. I EXPECT PLANNERS TO BE SIGNED DAILY. I WILL CHECK YOUR CHILD'S PLANNER EACH MORNING TO SEE IF THIS HAS BEEN DONE. PLANNERS ARE NOT TO BE SIGNED AHEAD OF TIME!
Your child should know all of his/her multiplication facts by 5th grade. If your child does not know ALL the facts, he/she should be practicing each night until they are all memorized. Knowing the multiplication facts will help your child in other areas of 5th grade mathematics!!!
Please make sure your student is practicing adding and subtracting fractions! I have found that half the class or more have forgotten how to do this after giving a brief review assessment on this last Friday. I had many students miss all of the 5 practice problems I gave them to do! This is a critical skill that is tested extensively on the EOG! Please make sure your children practice this as well as other math skills that have been taught already this year by using Study Island. Your student should use Study Island at least 3 times per week. Practicing math, reading and science will definitely help them review and be prepared for end of year tests which will be here before we know it!
Please make sure your child has lunch money on their account frequently. ALL LUNCH MONEY SHOULD BE IN A SEALED ENVELOPE WITH CHILD'S NAME, NC WISE NUMBER (LUNCH #), TEACHER'S NAME, GRADE LEVEL, AND AMOUNT BEING SENT ON THE FRONT OF THE ENVELOPE. Lunch numbers should be the same as last year unless your child is coming from another school district. All checks should be written in blue or black ink only!

CAFETERIA NEWS
All money sent to school for lunch is to be placed in an envelope (not a ziploc bag) with your child's name and lunch number on it. Your child's lunch number is the same as last year unless your child is coming from another school district! When writing checks for lunch money, do not include other fees with payment to the cafeteria. Money for lunch must be a separate check than money for other items. Also, a valid and current phone number must be on the check as well as your address. Children are only allowed 5 charges. If your child packs a lunch, he/she must bring their own utensils and napkins. The cafeteria only provides those items for students purchasing food from them. Also, if you would like your child to be "blocked" from purchasing extras like ice cream, chips or cookies, please send a note for the cafeteria manager, Tricia Gooden. Accounts can be flagged that allow students to purchase extras on certain days. Students are not permitted to use the microwave. The first 10 minutes of each lunch period is a silent period. When eating with your child I ask you to adhere to this school rule as well.
SOAR STORE
We do offer a SOAR store every few weeks for students to spend the tickets they have earned. Candy, desk buddies, lunch buddies, pick your own seat for a day and homework passes are some of the items students can "buy" with their tickets as well as pencils/erasers/other school supplies. If you can donate items for our SOAR Store I would appreciate it.
GRADED PAPERS
Graded papers come home on the first school day of the week. Please look for these and sign the folder on the appropriate space after reviewing your child's work. Graded papers may stay at home unless your child receives a paper that says "Correct and Return." If your child chooses to redo a paper stamped with those words, they have until Friday of the same week he/she received the paper in his/her folder to turn it back in. I will regrade papers that have been redone. If your child doesn't redo an assignment stamped "Correct and Return" he/she will receive the first grade given on the paper. Redone work will not be accepted late! Test and quiz grades are not work that can be redone. In other words, the first grade counts. However, I allow some reading selection quizzes can be corrected in class for 1/2 credit.
