Classroom Procedures

 

Welcome back!  Here are some daily procedures and information for our classroom…

 

*Snacks- We will have a snack break in the morning.  Students must provide their own snack.  Please make sure it is pre-wrapped or in a Ziploc bag or container.  Please avoid sending anything that needs to be refrigerated.  Do not send drinks with your students.  They will be allowed to get water from the water fountain during this time.

 

*Morning- After the first couple of days of school, I expect the children to walk to the classroom unescorted.  There will be supervision throughout the school and this will be a great way to initiate responsibility.   This also is an easier transition for the students and helps them to be ready to start the school day.

 

*Lunch- Please send lunch and ice cream money with your child in a Ziploc bag with their name and lunch number on the front.  Our lunch time is scheduled for 12:10-12:35.  Also, if your child brings a lunch from home, they must bring their own eating utensils and napkins.  They will not be allowed to obtain these things from the lunchroom.  Any questions about lunchroom policies or money should be directed to our lunchroom manger, Patricia Gooden.

 

*Ice Cream- Students will be allowed to have as they go through the lunch line.  You will need to have a discussion with you child about when you want them to get ice cream.

 

*Homework Folders- Students will be provided with a homework folder.  It will contain a reading log (Monday-Thursday).  Parents will need to sign the homework log affirming students read his/her book.  You should be reading with your students at least 20 minutes a night and studying their spelling words with them every night.

 

*Tickets- Students will be receiving award tickets for good behavior, attentiveness and completing homework each night.  Also tickets will be taken away for bad behavior throughout the week.  On Friday students will be allowed to “spend” their tickets on prizes I provide for them.  If you would like, I would appreciate any donations you would like to make to our prize box.  Bags of individually wrapped candy or small toys that your children do not use any more would be a great help to me throughout the year.  It would also be a great way to get rid of some things you don’t need anymore!

 

*If you need to contact me during the day, my planning time is from 9:30-10:20.  I also check my email everyday so that is also a great way to reach me at aduncan@iss.k12.nc.us .
