Our goal is that every student will be able to do all of the following by the end of 2nd grade.
 
English/Language Arts
  • I can tell why the author wrote a selection or story.
  • I can explain why the author uses bold, italic, and capital letters for certain words.  (Example: OUCH!)
  • I can use the author's decisions and word choice to understand a story or selection.
  • I can use clues from the story to make smart guesses (predictions) about what might happen next or why something happens.
  • I can read nonfiction text to answer questions.
  • I can tell the main idea, facts, and details from a selection or story.
  • I can tell how events, characters, and ideas are alike and different.
  • I can read and understand information from charts, diagrams, and maps.
  • I can make connections to texts that I have read.
  • I can retell new ideas or information in my own words.
  • I can use capital letters correctly in my writing.
  • I can use punctuation correctly in my writing.
