    Thursday, May 30th, is our Beach Day!  The children can wear their sunglasses, hats, and their shorts/shirts (no swimsuits).  They can bring their beach towel as well.

    Weekly Learning Objectives:
     
    Math~ Addition word problems using 3 numbers (Topic 16)
    Reading~ I can use the heading and table of contents I can tell about the different parts of informational texts; I can use illustrations to describe a story.  Weekly reading selection~ "I'm a Caterpillar"
     
    Please continue to help your child practice telling time to the hour and half hour.  Also, please read daily with your child and work on sight words.

    Happy Valentine's Week! Our party will be this Thursday, Feb. 14th.  Please send in all decorated boxes, Valentine cards and treats, and party supplies by Wednesday, Feb. 13th. 

    Reminders:  Wednesday, Feb. 13th is an Early Release Day
                      Thursday, Feb. 14th...Jump Rope for Heart money is due

    This week I will continue administering the Reading 3D test that I began earlier in January.  Last week, the students took their final Reading and Math CFA's, as well as the Reading 3D.  The children will soon take the 1st Semester BA and baseline CFA for the 2nd Semester.  Please make sure you are working with your child daily to reinforce the skills being taught in class. 
     
    Our story this week is "An Egg is an Egg".  Our weekly skill is "I can explain the lesson in a story".  Please continue reading with your child daily and working on Dolch Sight words.
     
    In Math, we will continue comparing 2 digit numbers: 10 less than/more than any number.  Our test on topic 12 will be Wednesday.

  • Read, REad, REAd, READ!!!

    Learning to read is such a vital part of 1st grade.  As the year progresses, I am witnessing GREAT growth in the children's reading skills.  This is due to the tremendous support they are receiving at home and school.  Reading daily with your child is so very important.  Please take the time to listen to them read daily.  Also, please utilize our Dolch Sight Word list on our website.  Thank you for continuing to be an active part of your child's education.

  • Holly Jolly Week

    This week in Math, we will finish our study of shapes and begin our study of patterns.  In reading, we will learn how to distinguish real from fiction.

    I would like to extend a very sincere thank you to all of you who are working with your child daily.  It is very important that the children establish strong study habits at this age.  Your support with this by making sure that they are completing assignments, handing them back in, and reading to you daily is vital to their educational success.

  • A Great End to a Great Month

    November has been a great month!  As this month draws to a close, I want to thank each of you for your support.  I appreciate how much you have worked at home reinforcing the skills we have learned in class.  Your child's educational success correlates a great deal to the teamwork between the child, you, and me.  Please continue to read with your child daily and work diligently on the sight words listed on our website.

    In Math this week, we will be subtracting to 20.  We will teach your child to use a number line and a hundreds board.  In Reading, the children are learning about the main idea of a story.  As you read to your child this week, please help them identify the main idea of the passage or story you are reading.
