Athletics

West Middle competes with other middle schools in the Iredell/Statesville School System in the following sports: football, volleyball, basketball, cross-country, wrestling, soccer, and cheerleading.  Team membership is dependent on try-outs and students must maintain academic and behavioral standards.

These standards include:

Students must pass 3 of 4 classes per semester
  • Participation in any sport is dependent on the student’s previous semester grades
  • Students not meeting academic or behavioral standards at interim report time (or report card) will have until the next report period (interim/card) to improve, but cannot participate in the sporting event as an athlete in any manner.  (See academic probation rules)
  • Students assigned to in-school suspension (first offense) may practice but must sit out the next scheduled game
  • On the second offense which results in ISS (in the same sport season) the athlete will be dismissed from the team
  • Any student who is assigned out of school suspension will automatically be removed from the team (applies to each sport season; fall, winter, and spring)

Further definition and clarity can be obtained from the office.
