Academic Probation

Any student failing more than one subject in the following areas: Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Health, PE, or Wheel on the interim report or report card will be placed on academic probation. This probation means that the student will not be allowed to participate in or attend extracurricular activities such as school dances and school sponsored games/events and non curricular events (pep rallies, assemblies, etc.) at West Middle School until an improvement has been made in his/her studies. A re-evaluation of the situation will be made at the next 4 ½ week report (or report card). At this evaluation point, the administration will determine whether the student should remain on academic probation or if he/she can resume involvement in school activities.

Academic probation should NOT be viewed as a form of punishment; it is an opportunity for students to focus on their academic deficiencies and take appropriate corrective measures immediately. Parent conferences are encouraged especially when a student is having difficulty in the classroom.
