The Exceptional Children's Mission

We will assist students with special needs in reaching their highest academic potential by supporting our co-teachers with research based training, providing specialized resources to teach core skills, getting counseling for the well being of the student, and advocating for student rights while ensuring compliance with IDEA.

About Me

I have been a teacher in the Exceptional Children's Program since the 2000 school year.  After retiring from the business segment, I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and obtained my lateral entry degree in Special Education. My specialization is in the area of education for students with learning disabilities.  In 2005, I received my Masters Degree in Special Education, also from UNC-C.  In 2006, I completed a year long study and was awarded the National Board of Professional Teachers certification.  Although I have completed many hours of study, I always feel that I continue to learn through my fellow teachers, and of course, through the interaction with my students with challenges!

Personally, I have a  daughter, Sara, who recently graduated with  a degree in Criminal Justice.  My son Justin is in the Navy, and has traveled all over the world during his last ten years. He is currently stationed in Florida.

One of my passions is sewing!  (Yes, I also have a degree in Clothing and Textiles!)
I have sewn since I was 4 when I learned from my dear grandmother how to operate a sewing machine.  I do almost anything including draperies, upholstery, dresses, bedspreads, and most favorite-wedding dresses!  Most items are for my family or for special gifts. There is rarely a day that goes by that I don't use at least one of my seventeen sewing machines!
