  • On-the-Blog real-life examples of "RATE."

Posted by Victoria Grout at 3/10/2011 5:00:00 PM
Students!  Some of you have posted your FREE RICE.com postings here on the wrong blog.

Instead of moving all your totals and maybe accidently erasing some, I will make this post for two topics:  FREE RICE TOTAL and REAL LIFE EXAMPLE OF RATE.

Please be careful where you post your comments next time.  We have lots of different blogs.

Thanks!  Have a great summer!  Mrs. Grout  :)

Remember:  Rate has two units of measure that are in proportion to each other to solve for rate, example: distance over time.  Think of the inchworm. :)

Here's another spot where you can challenge each other!  This time we're working on GEOMETRY practice.  Remember, if you answer a question correctly, you get to ask the next question.  Go for it!  Who is going to ask the first question?

  • Writing decimals and fractions as percents - SMS

Posted by Victoria Grout at 1/25/2011 2:00:00 AM
Ok SMS Math students, let's get a good challenge going.  Since we are working on changing decimals and fractions to percents, we will start the challenge with the following question.

Write the following decimal as a percent:   .51

Now, write the following fraction as a percent   49/100

The first student to get these 2 questions correct gets to post the next question on this topic.  Enjoy!

As we reflect on this great year at UGE, here's a chance to share happy comments and positive compliments with your schoolmates, teachers, and staff of Union Grove Elementary.  We have had such a blast learning together this year.  To all of my UGE students, have a great summer!  To my fifth graders - you rock!  It's been so much fun learning together.  I will really miss all of you!  Stay safe, make good choices, "YOU ARE WORTH IT!"  HAGS  Love, Mrs. Grout  : )

  • Share your EOG study preparation habits!

Posted by Victoria Grout at 4/13/2010 10:00:00 PM

Here's your chance to help your friends and classmates.  Share your ideas for the best ways to prepare for the EOGs.  Here's one idea:  Make a list of study partners with their phone numbers; (always check with your parents first to see if it's ok to share your phone number with a classmate).  That way, when you're studying at home, if you get stuck on something, you can call a study partner to get help with it.  It's best to get help early,.... EOGs are "right around the corner."  With good preparation, you should expect to do well.  :)  Mrs. Grout

Posted by Victoria Grout at 3/11/2010 6:00:00 PM

Let's play some geometry fun.  Who wants to ask the first question?  Your question must be related to geometry..... Go ahead, ask away!  Other students will try to answer.  If they are right, they will get to post a geometry question.  Have fun practicing. :)  Mrs. Grout

  • Global Awareness-Enter your rice fun totals!

Posted by Victoria Grout at 10/30/2009 11:00:00 AM
Working to improve our learning and earning rice for others who are in need at the same time,....  Benjamin Franklin said, and I paraphrase, "The best business venture is when both sides win."  In science, it's called a symbiotic relationship when both living things benefit from each other.  Well, how, you ask, do I benefit from giving something to someone who never gives me a thing?  It's more blessed to give, than to receive - you know that.  So, you already receive just by giving.  In fact, it's even better when they can't give you anything back.  Keep giving - keep living!   : )  Mrs. Grout
