ASSIGNMENT #2: Research assigned topic, develop a Power Point and deliver a presentation on your topic to class. In addition to answering who, what, where, when, why and how, find something about this topic that your audience will find engaging. I've provided a link to help get you started, but don't limit yourself to just this site. In fact, find at least two additional sites to research. Using MLA format, include in-text citations and a Works Cited page.

April 1865-  Civil War ends with surrender of Confederate Army. 
 
Ratified December 1865- 13th Amendment abolished slavery in all states.
 
 
1865- Freedmen's Bureau formed to help former slaves with transition to a free life.  
 
1866- Ku Klux Klan formed. 
 
1866 Civil Rights Act passed by Congress, vetoed by President Johnson, with veto overridden by Congress, granted citizenship and equal rights to former slaves. 
 
Ratified July 1868 - 14th Amendment granted citizenship and equal rights to former slaves.
 
Ratified February 1870- 15th Amendment  granted African American males the right to vote.
 
1875 Civil Rights Act passed by Congress, guaranteed African Americans equal access to "enjoyment" of  public facilities such as restaurants, public transportation and more.  (Declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 1883).
 
Booker T. Washington- Civil Rights Leader 
 
W.E.B. Dubois- Civil Rights Leader
 
1896- Plessy Vs. Ferguson-  Supreme Court rules that it is constitutional to have "separate but equal" facilities for African Americans.
 
1900- 1970- The Great Migration -  Easy access by railroad and the promise of factory jobs drew African Americans north.
 
 
1919- Red Summer
