THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS CENTER ADVANCED MUSICIANSHIP PROGRAM In addition to our introductory courses in Class Guitar and Class Piano, VPAC offers a powerful and valuable program of music study for an student serious about taking their musical knowledge and skills "to the next level." The Advanced Musicianship Program gives motivated music students the flexibility to pursue music study on their own terms, at their own pace, and rigorously. The teacher provides plan of study, tailored to meet the needs of the individual student, and guides the student through the course of study via projects, demonstrations, performance opportunities, peer work and evaluation, and opportunities for field work and observation in the professional music field to prepare for careers in music. Though many students who enroll in the Advanced Musicianship Program plan to major in music at the college level and/or pursue careers in music, some students enroll in the program in order to simply improve their skills on an instrument, learn music theory, have stage-performance opportunities, or participate with other musicians in organized ensembles. To enroll in the program, the student must have a written recommendation from their current or very recent music teacher and one core academic teacher. The student must be in good academic and behavioral standing. Any public high school student in Iredell County may enroll in the program and remain at his or her current high school, yet if the student attends a school other than Statesville High School or VPAC, the student is responsible for transportation to and from class daily. See the Course of Study below to learn what areas of study are available in the Advanced Musicianship Program. ![]() |
