S.T.A.R. Binders

What is a S.T.A.R. Binder?
 
S.T.A.R. stands for Students Taking Academic Responsibility.  This year students in fourth grade will be using STAR binders to help keep them organized and prepared with all necessary materials, assignments and parent communications.  We ask that students keep their binder neat and clean them out nightly.  Parents should look at them every night for papers sent home, to monitor behavior and to stay updated for what's going on in our classroom.
 
What's in a S.T.A.R. Binder?
 
In your child's STAR binder you will find:
  • A pencil pouch will a few pencils, a pen for checking work, a highlighter, and personal whiteboard marker.  We ask that you keep only essentials here as a bulky pencil pouch makes for a bulky STAR binder.
  • A clear plastic sleeve with STAR binder guidelines, dos and don'ts.
  • A green communication folder for two way home and school communication.  On the front pocket of the communication folder you'll find the weekly newsletter.  Inside communication and homework can be kept.  On the back pocket is the behavior calendar.
  • Student planner where nightly assignments are recorded.
  • Folders for Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies and Reading Log.
S.T.A.R. Binder Dos and Don'ts
  • DO take your STAR binder home each night and bring it back to school each day.
  • DO keep it neat and clean.
  • DO show it to your parents each night.
  • DON'T put anything in it that doesn't belong.
  • DON'T eat or drink near your STAR binder.
  • DON'T let anyone else borrow your STAR binder.
