Welcome to West Iredell High School website. WIHS serves roughly 1000 ninth through twelfth graders of the Iredell-Statesville School District. We are located in the western region of Iredell County, located between the cities of Statesville and Hickory, North Carolina. Students here are offered an extensive number of curricular and extra-curricular programs creating countless opportunities for our students. Our number one goal is to help prepare our children for the next phase of their lives after high school.

West Iredell High School is a wonderful place to teach and learn. A great contributor to the schools greatness is the strong support from the parents and guardians, the school personnel, district administration and the board of education. The collaborative effort among all the constituents is critical to our advancement and the advancement of our children. 

Developing our youth is a team effort. Our faculty and staff earnestly develop our students’ qualities of scholarship, character, citizenship, and service for at least 35 hours per week. We are so grateful to the families for maintaining a similar focus, sending a consistent message to our youth.  

As you browse the pages of this website, you will notice the wealth of opportunities offered to our students. I encourage students to take advantage of the possibilities and become involved in the extracurricular activities that interest them. When students become involved in sports, music, drama, and school sponsored clubs, scholastic achievement  improves academic achievement. Becoming involved teaches our students to budget their time, keeps them involved in productive activities, and holds them in structured, supervised settings with school aged peers with similar values and goals.

More Information about me.
I am originally from Canton, Mississippi. I started my post secondary education at Mississippi State University, then I transferred to Appalachian State University. I graduated in 1992 with my Bachelors degree in history secondary education. I then taught school for ten years before entering administration. I have completed my Masters and Educational Specialist degrees from ASU as well. I am currently working on my Ed.D - Doctorate degree at Wingate University. I have been in North Carolina for 17 years and plan to remain here until I retire.

My philosophy of Education is that it is the backbone to being successful in our society today. Growing up in Mississippi I didn't get the quality education to help prepare me for the next step in my life. I will not let that happen to our students at West, our responsibility is to prepare them for the challenges of the 21st Century. I want our kids to be prepared for what ever life after high school brings them. Our world is getting smaller every year thanks to technology. So it is our goal to teach students how to utilize this tool to better prepare them for their post-secondary careers.
