My Classroom Mission: Students in my classes will learn about literature and how it applies to their own lives. I will challenge my students to become better readers and more proficient writers in order to prepare them for college and the workforce.
About Me
I am in my twenty-first year in English education at North Iredell High School; and while at North, I have taught all levels of English. For the Spring 2013 semester, my schedule includes English IV Honors, AP Literaturea and Composition, and an elective course entitled Holocaust Literature. I have been a Museum Teacher Fellow for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington, DC, since 2003, and I am a former NIHS, ISS, and NC Northwest Region Teacher of the Year. I am active with the NC Council on the Holocaust, as well as the USHMM; I am committed to Holocaust education across the state of North Carolina. My advisory includes many of our "Rowdy Raiders," and we focus on building school spirit within the school and the community.
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is my alma mater where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in English in 1992, as well as my Master's Degree in Secondary Education in 1998. I also received my initial National Board Certification in 2002 and received my renewal in November 2011. North Iredell High is truly my second home, and I am "PROUD TO BE A RAIDER!"
