Our mission is to prepare students for academic success and future careers through improved communication and critical thinking skills#  We do this through a mix of reading non-fiction, fiction, poetry and drama, as well as writing informational, persuasive, and narrative compositions#  We also focus on grammar and vocabulary development, and we practice active listening and thoughtful speaking skills#

 

Further, my personal mission is to discover ways to help students to enjoy reading and writing#  Some students seem to naturally love these activities, but for other students, reading or writing have not been enjoyable activities# I believe that people who say that they hate to read might actually be described as people who hate what they've had to read#  I believe it's possible for most to enjoy reading if they find the right things to read#  That is my challenge ### to help them find it#  I believe that better writing comes from better reading# The more exposed students are to various types of reading, the better they become at expressing themselves#

I came to teaching from a previous career in the United States Air Force. After retiring from over two decades in the military, I spent four years in Virginia teaching 9th and 10th grade students before moving to North Carolina and Lake Norman High in the summer of 2007. Including full time teaching assignments in the military, I have just over 14 years of teaching experience, and Lake Norman High represents my best experiences yet. I mean it when I say I am delighted to be teaching the most precious thing in your life, your children.
