We are moving along nicely in our novel Peak. I can't tell you how I love to have students beg me to keep reading or to be able to read ahead!! I try to pick high interest novels and it seems to be paying off. :)

 

Our focus still continues to be:

 

1.) being able to summarize any portion of a given text

2.) being able to identify similes, metaphors, hyperbole, and personification in a given text and tell what they mean

3.) being able to use specific details from the text to back up your answer or opinion

 

The specific details and identifying metaphors seem to be our areas for improvement. These are skills we work on daily. I try to give partial credit on my short response/journal questions to help with grading. The questions I give for grades are always ones we have also discussed in class.
