Attention Parents of 5th Graders

New Immunization requirement for the 6th grade entry

a booster dose of Tdap vaccine is being required for all children before entering 6th grade

Tdap is a combination of three vaccines that provides protection against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis(whooping cough).

the vaccine is safe and effective, the most common side effects are pain and swelling at the site of injection.

if your child has had a tetanus-containing vaccine in the past 5 years please provide that documentation to the school nurse. Consult your health care provider for the time frame in getting the Tdap vaccine. Remember the Tetanus vaccine by itself does not contain the pertussis(whooping cough) vaccine.

you can get this vaccine at your doctor's office or local health department

Don't forget to provide the school nurse with the documentation showing proof of the vaccine.
