Tdap is a combination of three vaccines that provides protection against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis(whooping cough).
the vaccine is safe and effective, the most common side effects are pain and swelling at the site of injection.
if your child has had a tetanus-containing vaccine in the past 5 years please provide that documentation to the school nurse. Consult your health care provider for the time frame in getting the Tdap vaccine. Remember the Tetanus vaccine by itself does not contain the pertussis(whooping cough) vaccine.
