My Homework Philosophy
I believe that practicing homework in Kindergarten is necessary to begin a successful school career for each student.
In my classroom we have 2 types of homework
1. Nightly Flashcards (Sept - May) - Each child will have flashcards in their reading envelopes to review every night. The child will work on letterland flashcards until they know the majority (90% or more) of their letterland characters, letter names, and letter sounds. Then the child will progress to sight word flashcards. These are to be reviewed every night.
2. Take-home books (Oct - May) - Once the child has a good understanding of their letters/sounds and a good knowledge of how books works(direction we read, one-to-one pointing, etc. ) we will begin to send books home to practice reading at home. These are to be read each night and returned the next day.
