Current MYP Math Objectives

Knowledge and understanding –

Ø   Understand concepts and demonstrate skills from the NCSCOS and the MYP Framework for Mathematics

Ø   Use the abovemathematical skills and concepts to solve problems in both familiar and unfamiliar situations and real-life contexts

Ø   Select and apply general rules correctly to solve problems

 

Investigating Patterns –

Ø   Select and apply appropriate inquiry and problem-solving techniques

Ø   Recognize patterns and describe them as relationships or general rules

Ø   Draw conclusions consistent with findings and justify or prove mathematical relationships and general rules.

 

Communication in mathematics –

Ø   Use appropriate mathematical language in both oral and written explanations

Ø   Use different forms of mathematical representation and easily move between them (tables, graphs, formulas, diagrams, and models)

 

Reflection in mathematics –

Ø   Explain whether results make sense in the context of a problem and the importance of their findings

Ø   Justify the degree of accuracy of their results where appropriate

Ø   Suggest improvements to the method when necessary
