Kindergarten Information

Lunch Money

On Mondays please send lunch money for the week in a zip-lock bag or envelope with your child’s name, my name, lunchroom number, and your phone number.  The lunchroom manager will credit your account any time that your child is absent.  Lunch is $1.95 per day or $9.75 per week.  Paying by check is a good way to keep up with how much you have paid and is a good receipt in case you or the lunchroom manager has any questions about your account.  If you are submitting a free/reduced lunch application form, you will need to continue paying for your child’s lunch until the application has been approved.

The sooner you get your application filled out and returned, the sooner it will be approved!

Ice Cream

Kindergarten children may buy ice cream on Fridays starting in October.  The cost of ice cream is $.50 or $.80 depending on the choice of ice cream.  Please send the ice cream money separate from lunch money and only send it on Friday mornings in an envelope labeled with your child’s name and teacher’s name.  Also include your child's lunch number and your phone number.

Rest Time

There will be a time for rest/relaxation especially at the beginning of the year.  Please send a towel labeled with your child’s name in his/her bookbag on Mondays.  We will send them home on Fridays to be washed. Please do not send in extra towels, pillows or stuffed animals.

Folders

Everyday your child will bring home a folder.  This is our communication folder.  We will call it our home folder.  I will use it to send to send home newsletters highlighting the week (on Mondays), things we have done throughout the week, and any announcements about school activities. You may also use it to send notes to me.  Check to see if there are any important papers which need to be signed and returned.  Also, look over your child’s work.  A behavior log will also be sent home in this folder everyday.  Look to see if your child met their goal, sign, and return it daily.

Medicine Policy

Medicine should be given at home.  The school does NOT provide Tylenol or aspirin.  If medicine needs to be given during the school day, a form MUST be completed by a doctor and sent to school.

Toy Policy

Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school unless we have designated a "toy share day".  We do not want a child’s personal toys to get lost or broken or distract them from the task of learning.
Note:  Silly bands are consider toys in my classroom.

Student Information Policy

Please notify us immediately if there is a change in your address, telephone number, and/or emergency contact number.  It can be frightening for your child (and us) if they become ill during the day and we can’t reach you.

Parent Conferences

In the fall we will have our first parent-teacher conference at school to discuss your child’s progress. This is when you will receive your child’s first report card.  Other conferences will be scheduled as necessary throughout the year.  It is important to come at your scheduled time so that you will be better informed about your child’s work habits, social skills, behavior, and academic progress.  Kindergarten children will receive report cards every nine weeks.  Progress reports will be sent at the mid-point of each grading period.  Please feel free to contact me any time you have questions or concerns about your child.

Supplies

Each child needs to bring a bookbag every day.  All children need to have 2 Composition Books to use for their journals and a small plastic pencil box.  Please refer the the kindergarten supply list for all other supplies.

Library Books

After the first few weeks your child will be checking out a library book which will need to be returned each week so that your child may check out another book.  If a library book is lost, you will be charged for the book.

                                                             Physical Education

Children should wear appropriate clothing and tennis shoes for PE.  Your child will have PE twice a week.  Tennis shoes are required to participate.

We also go outside everyday (weather permitting) to run and have recess.

Your child is much more likely to fall wearing flipflops, heels, and slip-on shoes while taking part in these activities.  I strongly suggest that your child wear tennis shoes.

Nightly Homework

READ and/or SING (at least 15 minutes) with your child each night.  When we begin sending Monthly Homework Calendars, please make sure you do the activity with your child each night. (This will probably begin in October.)  Remember that the time you spend each day with your child with books and songs will be of great value for YEARS to come!

Field Trips

Parents may accompany their child/children on field trips as long as they provide their own transportation.  Please remember that this is a special time for the kindergarten child so arrangements need to be made for those younger and older siblings.  Kindergarten children are expected to ride on the activity bus with their classmates since we feel that this is a part of the learning experience.  Be sure to always send your permission slip and money promptly.  (There will be no refunds.)

Independence of Your Child

Beginning Monday, September 13th, if you bring your child to school, you should drive through the morning car rider line to let your child out and a staff member will be there to assist your child.  By this time, your child should be able to find his/her way to the classroom.  If there are any concerns with this, please share those with your child’s teacher.

Change of Clothes

A change of clothes (under and outer wear) is a good thing for you to send in a labeled plastic bag.  Many times children have bathroom accidents as well as spills in the lunchroom.  Therefore, they would be more comfortable in dry clothing.  By having the change of clothes at school, it will save you an additional trip if an accident occurs.

Absences

When your child is absent, you are to send a written note which tells the reason your child was not at school.  This should accompany your child upon their return to school.  Make sure that you read the district attendance policy which states that the risk of retention to the next grade level occurs after the 10th absence.  This includes tardies and early dismissals.

School Promptness

School begins at 7:30 a.m.  Your child will be counted tardy at 7:31 a.m.  It is important that your child arrives at school promptly so everyone can begin the day together.  The dismissal bell rings at 2:05 p.m.

Getting Home From School

A written note is required if there are any changes in the way your child is getting home from school in the afternoons.  On the note please indicate who will be picking him/her up and give a phone number where that person can be reached.  If your child is to be picked up early, he/she must be signed out by the person picking him/her up in the office.  The office will then call our classroom to tell us that the child is being “signed out”.

If you find out during the school day that your child needs to go home in another manner, call the office and give them the details BEFORE school dismisses (at least 30 minutes before).  If you tell us that your child is a bus rider, we will ALWAYS send him/her home on the bus UNLESS we get that written note or a call to the office.  If your child is normally a car rider, we will always send him/her home in the car with the person that you have designated UNLESS we get a written note or a message from the office that you have called.

** TO ALL LICENSED DRIVERS WHO WILL BE PICKING UP CHILDREN IN THE CAR RIDER LINE: Follow the policy below:

In the interest of all children’s safety, parents and guardians are expected to stay in the car rider line to pick up children.

Do NOT PARK and WALK to the car rider area to get your child. If you have any questions/concerns regarding this, contact Andy Trotter, Cloverleaf Elementary School Principal!
