We are working on competency goal III:  The learner will use a variety of technologies to access, analyze, interpret, synthesize, apply and communicate information.  By introducing students to Power Point, the students will be accomplishing this goal.   We take this one step further as the students create and modify a multimedia presentation.  Each grade level builds on previous skills learned.

Kindergarten:  The students create alphabetical power points by adding pictures to the various slides.
They will gain knowledge in working with clipart as they and move, drag and enlarge pictures.  What a fun way to get a taste of working with multimedia!

1st Grade:  These students will also work on creating an alphabetical power point, however, if pictures can not be found in the clipart gallery, students will then move to typing up subjects to locate specific pictures. The students will also be introduced to adding slide transitions and sounds as they gain experience in multimedia presentations!

2nd Grade:  This year the students will create a power point on a famous person.  Here they will be adding clip art and text as they work with the basics of power point.  They are also working on their word processing and keyboarding skills. They will be presenting accomplishments and interesting facts about their person as they share their multimedia presentation with the class.

3rd Grade:  The students will be creating a very simple presentation about themselves.  From here however, we are trying something new as the students will create a "Power Point" box displaying the various aspect of their lives.  To work on their speaking skills, each students will then present their slide show to the class.  The students have been thrilled with this new approach and can't wait to share their boxes!

4th Grade:  This year the fourth graders work on a multi media presentation on NC wildlife. They are working on the essential skill, " I can use a storyboard to plan and organize a multimedia project citing my sources." They added digital and clip art pictures, word art, slide and sound transitions, backgroud and animation.   Each student will then import their own drawing into their presentation. They will then work on their public speaking as they present their power point in class.

5th Grade: The fifth graders are so excited to use a new web 2.0 tool called Glogster. A Glogster is a 21st century multimedia tool where the students create interactive posters.  The students are creating their glogster on a specific biome, which is part of their science common core curriculum.  They have very specific requirements they must incorporate into their glogster including text, digital images, videos, and drawings.   Many other skills are incorporated into these lessons. The students are word processing and working on their keyboarding skills as they type up their information. The students are problem solving and collaborating as they learn how to manipulate this new tool, and  they are learning an entirely new way to communicate information. Be sure to join the class when we share our presentations!
