These are the objectives that are essential for your child to master. Please continue to work on these items when you are reading together at home.
 
1st Semester:
2.01a  I can make predictions about a selection.

2.01b I can ask questions about a selection.

2.01d  I can find information in a

selection to answer questions.

2.06  I can tell the main idea, facts and details from a selection.

2.07  I can tell how events, characters and ideas are alike in different in one or more selections.

2.08  I can read and understand

information from diagrams, charts and maps.

3.04  Increase oral and written vocabulary by listening, discussing and composing texts when responding to literature that is read and heard.
 
 
   2nd Semester Reading Essentials             
in addition to 1st semester:

2.01e  I can tell why the author wrote the selection.

2.01f   I can explain why the author uses bold, italic, and CAPITAL letters.

2.01g  I can use the author’s decisions and word choice to understand the selection.

2.01i  I can use clues from the story to make smart guesses about what might happen in a selection or why something happened.

2.03  I can read non-fiction text to answer questions.

2.06  I can tell the main idea, facts and details from a selection.

2.07  I can tell how events, characters, and ideas are alike and different in one or more selection.

2.08  I can read and understand information from diagrams, charts and maps.

3.02  I can make connections to texts that I have read and/or heard.

3.03  I can retell new ideas and information.
