Grading and Assessments in Visual Art

~The purpose of any assignment/assessment is to determine what students have learned.  Students will track their growth on the IB Criteria A, B, C, and D.

~If students would like to improve his or her score on almost any assignment, they can use the feedback written on the assignment rubric, or they can ask Mrs. White what they can do to improve their score, if they are unsure.  Assignments can be improved upon and re-submitted in a timely manner.

~Below, please find types of assignments that students in grades 6-8 will be completing throughout each semester.  The list is not limited to these items, but these assignments represent the majority of assignments that will be given.  The information on this webpage is a guide.  You can find the answers to these questions below:

~What type of assignment is being given?

~Where will students spend time on this assignment?

~Which Rubric(s) is/are used to grade the assignment?

~How many points is the assignment worth?

~What is the weight in the gradebook for this assignment and why?

~How often will students turn in this type of assessment?

~Sketchbook Assignments*

~At home (or in class if time permits)

~Rubric B

~Worth 10 points each, then converted to a one-time score out of 100 points (using the IB Rubric Score Conversion Chart below)

~Weighted x.0 on each individual assignment (the 100 point score is weighted x.5 because it was homework)

~Every 2 weeks

*Each sketchbook assignment will be graded, and will have an individual weight as "0" in the gradebook.  This does not mean that the sketchbook assignments do not count.  Feedback will be given to students on how they might improve on future works of art.  One summative sketchbook assignment grade will be given at the end of each quarter, worth 100 points, using the IB rubric conversion table on the "Grading & Assessments" page.  This summative sketchbook assignment grade will reflect the level that the student consistently achieved on the sketchbook assignments for the quarter.

~In-class Projects and Assignments

~IB Rubric A, B, C, or D (or B, C, and D if it is an end of unit assignment)
