Welcome to 8th grade Language Arts!
My Classroom Mission
My mission is to encourage my students to become better readers, to enjoy reading and through reading to explore more about the world around them. I also will focus their learning on vocabulary through the understanding of word stems
(parts) so that they can comprehend what they read. Writing will be another goal that I will emphasize so students can express themselves and their thoughts.
About Me
I'm originally from the Midwest having grown up in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.
Later, I moved to Illinois and lived near Champaign/Urbana. Eventually, my husband, Harold and I lived outside of Chicago in Elmhurst where we raised our son, Dan. When Dan ended up at UNC-Charlotte, we came down to visit and decided to move permanently to the area.
We have been in Mooresville since 1999 where I taught at Brawley Middle School.
When Lakeshore Middle School opened, I transferred here and have been here since then. In Iredell, I have taught Language Arts, Math and Social Studies both
7th and 8th grade.
Previous to teaching in the Iredell District, I taught K-6th grade in the Chicago
suburbs for about 4 years.
I have a Master of Arts Teaching degree with an emphasis in Language Arts and
Social Studies. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration
and previously had a career in the human resources field.
In my leisure time, I enjoy entertaining and keeping in touch with friends and family since we are all over the country from the west coast to the midwest. During the summer and school breaks, we try to visit our friends and family as much as possible. We also love travelling and have been to many places in the U. S. as well as Ireland, England, Germany and Austria.
I'm looking forward to helping your child become successful in his or her studies and hope to be a positive role model for all my students!
