Welcome to my Classroom

Welcome to my webpage. This year, I am teaching Journalism I, Journalism II-Newspaper, and Journalism II - Yearbook. I advise The Blue & Gray (newspaper) and The Trail (yearbook), Statesville High School's award-winning student publications, and Spirit of the Greyhounds, the student spirit club.

The Trail Mission
The mission of The Trail staff is to produce a balanced and informative yearbook that covers individuals and events within the school. Production of the yearbook also serves as an educational tool for student journalists.

The Blue & Gray Mission
The mission of The Blue & Gray staff is to provide informative and accurate coverage of individuals and events within the school, the community and the city of Statesville. Production of the student newspaper also serves as an educational tool for student journalists and as a forum for student expression.

Journalism I Mission
Our mission is to improve our writing and grammar skills. We will also gain an understanding of proper journalistic style and legal and ethical matters regarding journalism.

About Me
This is my 27th year teaching at SHS. I also graduated from SHS in 1977, so I've spent more than half my life here. I've been married to my husband, Phil, for 26 years. Phil is a 1976 graduate of South Iredell, but I don't hold that against him! We have two children, Caroline, who is a senior psychology major at UNCG, and Jacob, who is studying fire science at Mitchell Community College. Both of my children are graduates of SHS.

I earned my associate degree at Mitchell Community College and my bachelor's and master's degrees at UNCC.
