The Lake Norman High School Wildcat VocalSymphony is offering 3 courses in the choral arts for the 2011-2012 school year. Students with beginning and intermediate skills will have the opportunity to grow and perform in all of the choral arts classes.
Choral Arts is open to all interested musicians and does not require a teacher recommendation. Students who have already taken Choral Arts I and would like to take chorus again, but are not able to take Showformance or Women’s Ensemble can take Choral Arts again as a Choral Arts II, III, or IV class. Students in Choral Arts perform in the fal lCabaret as well as the Winter concert. Choral Arts II, III, and IV students are invited to audition for participation in the Gardner-Webb Choral Festival in October, and Honor’s Chorus in November. As well as All-State Choral Festival and Mars Hill Choral Festival. Choral Arts I, II, III, or IV students are not required to participate in the spring tour.
Women'sEnsemble is a course offered, by teacher selection, to students who have either already completed Choral Arts I,or have been recommended by myself or a former music teacher for entrance into this course. Students enrolled in Women’s Ensemble participate in Regional Festival and the Spring Concert and are encouraged to go on Spring Tour which involves a national competition. Students who have participated in Women’s Ensemble or Showformance in years past are eligible to audition for All-State and Mars Hill Choral festival in the fall.
Entrance into Showformance is by audition only and is offered to those who have displayed an advanced aptitude for the choral arts. Auditions are at the beginning of 2nd semester and involve both dancing and singing. Showformance is a year long course offered at the honors level. Students enrolled in this course are eligible to audition/participate in Gardner-Webb choral festival, Honor’s Chorus, All-State Chorus, All-County Chorus, Regional Festival, the fall Cabaret, the Winter Concert, and the Spring Concert as well as other performance opportunities that arise. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in our spring tour which involves a national competition.
In addition to performance opportunities, students in all choirs will be required to pass theory, and sight-reading proficiencies. The Choral Arts curriculum is based on NC Essential Standards. Those sections by which students will be directly assessed are noted in the Choral Arts Syllabus.
I am also teaching Theatre I this year. This course is an entry level course for those wishing to "get their feet wet" in theatre arts. During the course of the semester students will learn skills in improvisation, pantomime and mime, voice and diction, stage movement, and production skills.
WildCat Vocal Symphony Mission Statement
The Lake Norman High School Choral Department will provide an encouraging, supportive environment in which choral arts students will be given the opportunity to expand their musical knowledge and performance experiences through a sequential developmental music curriculum. It is our belief that the study of choral music instills a sense of pride and accomplishment; it fosters higher level thinking skills, self discipline and accountability to oneself, the ensemble and the community.
I began as the director of choral arts at Lake Norman High School when they opened the doors in 2002.
In recent years, I have had the pleasure of performing with the Davidson Community Theatre as well as acting as the musical director for Davidson Community Theatre's production of "Spit Fire Grill" and the theatrical/musical director for the Mooresville Children's Theatre's production of "Anne of Green Gables, the musical."
I have been married to my husband, Jeff Wagner for 21 years. We have 5 amazing children. After school I teach private voice and piano lessons from home and perform with The Lake Norman Big Band.
