Welcome to Mrs. Finan's Kindergarten!

Marjorie Finan

Welcome to Woodland Heights Elementary and Kindergarten!  This is such an exciting and important time in your child's life.  I look forward to providing the opportunity for your child to develop a positive self-concept and a strong sense of belonging as well as celebrating each child's development as a lifelong  learner.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Our Classroom Mission Statement

We come to school to learn and have fun.  We will do our best to learn to read and write, know numbers and shapes, and get along with our friends.

About Me

This is my fifth year as a kindergarten teacher at Woodland Heights Elementary School.  I received my Bachelor's in Education from Gardner-Webb University in 2008 and my Master's in Education Theory and Practice from Arkansas State University in 2012.  My family moved here from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, in 2003.  We love North Carolina!  My husband, John, and I have three wonderful daughters.  Jennifer is a speech-language graduate student at UNC Greensboro, Kaitlin recently graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and is currently in Alaska completing an environmental internship, and Laura is studying public health at UNC Charlotte.  In my spare time, I enjoy working in the yard, reading, shopping, and spending time with my family.  I love kids and sincerely enjoy kindergarten!

Our classroom pet is a five-year old, red-eared slider turtle named Franklin.  Franklin loves to sunbathe, swim, and become friends with anyone he meets.  We also have an adopted loggerhead turtle named Gilda who was injured and released back into the Atlantic Ocean.
