Welcome

Vickie Laseter

I would like to welcome you and your child to First Grade.  I am looking forward to working with you to provide a good foundation for your child's education. By the end of this year your child will be reading and have a basic knowledge of our Base Ten Math System. I will provide classroom and homework instruction, but the more you reinforce this at home and work with your child, the more successful your child will be. Please feel free to contact me any time at my email address above or call the school and leave me a message. I will return your call when the school day ends. Let's work together for a great year.

Our Classroom Mission Statement
(written by the students)

We need to learn how to add, subtract, work with numbers, do science, and most of all learn to read.  We will do this by trying our best every day and following our class rules. We will listen to Mrs. Laseter and our other teachers so we can learn.

Let me introduce myself. I grew up about an hour away from Mooresville in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, but my husband and I have lived in Mooresville for 29 years now. Mooresville and the Lake Norman area feel more like home than Winston-Salem. I am a graduate of N.C. State University and continued my education at UNC-Charlotte, where I received my teacher's certification.

This is my 11th year at Shepherd Elementary. My first year at Shepherd I taught computer class. I have taught First Grade and also a combination First and Second Grade class here.  I have previously taught Second Grade at W.R. Odell Elementary in Cabarrus County.

On a personal note, I am happily married to my husband, Frank. We have been married for 29 years.  We have two grown children, Carly and John.

My hobbies include scouting our unusual things at yard sales and collecting antiques.  I also enjoy boating, playing the piano, gardening, and loving my cat Sunshine.

Again, I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.

Mrs. Laseter
