Lights...Camera...Action! Welcome to Ms. Layne's 1st Grade Classroom! We will take a walk down the red carpet this year as we follow the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). So, get ready for an exciting year of learning as we head off to the wonderful world of math, reading, and Letterland!
Our Classroom Mission
We want to learn to read, write, and be good problem solvers. We will do this by listening, following directions, and staying on task. We will respect others while we do our best. We want to be the best that we can be while preparing for 2nd grade!
About the Teacher
I graduated in December 2000 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education and a minor in English and communications. I went on to earn my Master of Arts degree in school administration in August 2003 from Gardner-Webb University while teaching at Mt. Mourne Elementary School.
Previously, I taught first grade for 5 years at Mt. Mourne Elementary School (2001-2005) before going out on maternity leave. I taught 2 and 4 year-olds at Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church Preschool (2007-2010) while I stayed out with my daughter, Ansleigh. When she started Kindergarten, I wanted to go back into the classroom full-time. I was so excited to be offered a teaching job here at Coddle Creek Elementary School! I taught third grade my first year back in 2010-2011. Now, I am glad to be back teaching first grade again! It is such a wonderful place to be! This will be my 8th year teaching.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, our Maltipoo named Maddie Grace (aka "Gracie"), cooking, shopping, watching movies, reading, and participating in activities at my church. I also love catering events!
I look forward to working with each and every one of you this year! Together, we can do anything!
