School Profile - Woodland Heights Elementary
Vision: Our vision at Woodland Heights Elementary is to become a “top ten” performing school in North Carolina. Mission: The mission of Woodland Heights Elementary is to provide a safe, positive learning environment which nurtures all children in their pursuit of academic excellence, emotional, physical, and social growth with the support and cooperation of students, parents, staff, and the community. Core Values: Woodland Heights maintains the following core values: Demographics: Woodland Heights Elementary opened in August of 2005 with 808 students. We are in a high growth area and presently have 937 students. Our school is comprised of 95% White, 1% Black, 2% Hispanic, .9% Multi-Racial, 1% Asian, and .1% American Indian. We have 4% free and reduced lunch. Our students come from middle to upper-middle class families. We have highly supportive parents. Program Offerings: Our school offers the North Carolina standard core curriculum. We have enhancements in Art, P.E., Music, Media Center, stationary and mobile Laptop Computer Lab, and Science Lab. We have an after-school, volunteer-led enrichment program which includes: Robotics, Chorus, Newspaper, and Spanish. Our students participate in the Science Fair, Math Expo, Battle of the Books, and other AIG sponsored programs. We have a full-time counselor, AIG facilitator, and a lead teacher. Results: WHE’s End of Grade results in Reading placed our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at 100% proficiency. Math results will be returned in November. Our expectations are high for students, staff, and administrators.
